If I understand what's happening here, wouldn't we instead start
1,3,7,12,18,10,19, ...
diff 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9

sequence and first differences list all positive numbers
exactly once:
S = 1, 3, 7, 12, 18, 26, 17, 28, 41, 51, 37, 22, 47, ...

8 9 11 13 10 14 15
