Aside from Andrew Hone's claim, we find a logically independent approach to
analyzing, understanding, and proving appearance of the -1 values
associated with the Chebyshev polynomials. The alternative approach
involves graphical arguments based on a matrix element geometry. Colorful
array plots make for a nice calculator application, now published via
Wolfram Demonstrations project [1]. Even if you don't have Mathematica, you
can still use the application via the cdf player [2].
