Subject: Fwd: Book Of Interest?
The Zen of Magic Squares, Circles, and Stars
An Exhibition of Surprising Structures across Dimensions
Clifford A. Pickover

I picked this book up, and liked it. As a cautionary
note, if you don't like Magic Squares, you probably won't
like this book.

There is a good story in the back chapters about The
Great Fubini. He turned to magic squares after the stock
market crash of 1929, and developed a decades long obsession
in large constructions. He was also a friend of National
Puzzler League member Twisto, who is now in his 80s.

I mentioned this to Cliff, and he went to visit
Twisto at his home, and dug up all sorts of information about
The Great Fubini and his constructions. A full chapter of
Cliff's book is devoted to him. Nice research.

The moral: Obsessing enough about numbers can make you
famous in the far future. (I find that comforting.)
