Why would you want to mark the example ?  You could either 
use the "Clear" link or go directly to the blank form:

With my Mozilla 3.0 (older than your Netscape 4.x ;-) I use
Shift-Ins to paste a line (= Umsch-Einfg on Keyb GR).

ACK.  But that would be a new form with a new (simple) CGI.
Maybe you can do it locally, create a form and add a JavaScript
to select sequence / word / A-num automatically depending on
the input.  And post it here as soon as it works, I'd copy it.

A single number (no blank, no comma, no sign) is a problem,
sometimes you want the sequence number, but maybe you want all
sequences with this number, e.g. 1729.
