Dear Seqfans and Associate Editors:

The first big move is almost finished - replacing
the lookup pages by Russ Cox's new versions.
Things run much faster and better.

The main lookup page is (still) http://www.research.att.com/~njas/sequences/

Please report any missing files - the pages have been moved around a lot.
(And of course any other bugs you notice)

During the move there was trouble with the A-number dispenser.
Please take new A-numbers (and for now also
check that they really are free).

I am running a couple of weeks behind in processing Comments
- there are currently about 400 waiting for me to handle them.

Within the next couple of months there will have to be another
move, when the external machine here ("akpublic",
also known as "www.research.att.com") is replaced by
a linux machine ("public", which will
then become "www.research.att.com")

This second move should be easier, because Russ's programs,
besides being faster, are also more portable
and better organized. (The old programs had been built up
over the past 12 years.)

Many thanks to Russ Cox for all his work. David Applegate
has also helped a lot in dealing with issues on the
local machines.

One other thing: to refer to a particular sequence by its A-number,
the old way was:

http://www.research.att.com/cgi-bin/access.cgi/as/njas/sequences/eisA2.cgi?Anum=A000044

(for example). This should be replaced by

http://www.research.att.com/~njas/sequences/A000044

or

www.research.att.com/~njas/sequences/?q=id:A000044

or

www.research.att.com/~njas/sequences/?q=id:A000044&fmt=2

(The first is the simplest, but retrieves probably more than you need;
the second just gets A000044,
the third just gets A000044, but in the internal format)

Neil
