Well, while generally I agree with you, in the case of Gauss things
are more complicated. While his name is Carl, many German textbooks
cite it as Karl.
Also, please take a look at the attached note from The Mathematical
Gazette, Vol. 76, No. 477. (Nov., 1992), p. 402.
