Sorry Neil, "memoization" is the universally accepted word for this 
style of function definition.  And it's perfectly pronounceable :)

Quoth Wikipedia:
"While memoization might be confused with memorization (because of the 
shared cognate), memoization has a specialized meaning in computing."
