The root of x^3-x-1=0 is actualy the smallest
Pisot-Vijayaraghavan number.
See Sloane's A072117

(By the way, Hugo Pfoertner, you missed typing a '2':
1.324717957'2'44746)
The root of x^3-x^2-1=0 is also root of
0=-3+2*x^2+3*x^3+5*x^4-5*x^5
and
0=-1+x-x^2+x^3+x^6-x^7+x^9+x^10-x^11-x^12
according to the Inverse Symbolic Calculator:

Once again, sorry for my miserable English,
Paulo Sachs
