The Russian web page where I found the proof game first
(apologies again for having forgotten to cite the source, but I
suppose everybody in need for was able to find it by pasting it into
google)
seems to be a digest of a usenet group: On another digest,

I found a reference to the group and the same date for both posts, and

Combining some indices seems to indicate that the username belongs to
Robert Caldwell from MSU.
