Apologies to all not interested in this, but since I got several mails
on an individual basis, I post again with CC to all seqfans...

The Russian web page where I found the proof game first
(apologies again for having forgotten to cite the source, but I
suppose everybody in need for was able to find it by pasting it into
google)
seems to be a digest of a usenet group: On another digest,
http://www.chessbanter.com/rec-games-chess-analysis-chess/24192-positions-most-legal-moves.html
I found a reference to the group and the same date for both posts, and
finally here's a link to the "original" (via google groups, I don't
know how to access it otherwise - I hope the links works for
everybody):
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.chess.analysis/tree/browse_frm/month/2006-10/60605320505f5cc3?rnum=381&start=250&_done=%2Fgroup%2Frec.games.chess.analysis%2Fbrowse_frm%2Fmonth%2F2006-10%3Fscoring%3Dd%26start%3D250%26&scoring=d#doc_4a680e0d3c0117f6

6. Bob Oct 13 2006, 10:19 am (incomplete)
7. Bob Oct 13 2006, 10:38 am (complete "Here's the proof...")

Combining some indices seems to indicate that the username belongs to
Robert Caldwell from MSU.
