I would write:

DEFINITION:
Successive powers of the matrix A=[1,2;3,4] written by row.
FORMULA:
a(4i+1)=(A^i)_{1,1}
a(4i+2)=(A^i)_{1,2}
a(4i+3)=(A^i)_{2,1}
a(4i+4)=(A^i)_{2,2}
COMMENTS:
Also the successive powers of the matrix A=[1,3;2,4] written by column.
OFFSET: 1
TERMS: insert at the beginning the 4 terms 1,0,0,1 corresponding to
the identity matrix A^0
