It's not so much that there is a regular pace sprinkled with vacations; it's
that there is a regular pace overlaid with occasional frenetic
"antivacations".  It appears not to be a function due to the vertical line
test.  This makes intuitive sense: vacations can involve much more
horizontality, while freneticity is usually vertical.
