Actually, "such that 3^k mod k == n" is a bit ambiguous.  If we write 
"such that 3^k == n (mod k)", we clearly are not implying that k > n.  
On the other hand, "such that mod(3^k,k) == n" (or better, "such that 
mod(3^k,k) = n"), we clearly are implying this.  With the form Joerg 
suggested, it isn't clear if "mod" is an operator, or if this is just a 
slightly odd way of stating a congruence.

These definitions are slightly different. The former implies that k>n,
while the latter does not.
