  I am glad to read Neil's reply. It agrees with what I've been hoping for.

Of course I also agree to the off-list reply

"I'd say they are not consecutive in the sequence ...,-2,-1,0,1,2,...
but they are in the sequence ...,2,1,0,-1,-2,..."

I think that without further qualification "x and y are consecutive 
numbers" refers to A000027 (positive integers) or A001477 (nonnegative 
integers), otherwise "x and y are consecutive numbers in A......" or "x 
and y are consecutive numbers in the sequence ...c1,c2,...ck,..." should 
be said.
