Erich Friedman's page "What's Special About This Number" says 26 is the only number between a square (25) and a cube (27). (Well, the page says "positive number" but the point is moot if we limit ourselves to real integers). In fact, it would seem 26 is the only number between two powers. I have verified this up to 10^7.
