Google searching is funky; I'm a web programmer by profession and that  
means trying to figure out all of Google's quirks for indexing things  
(search engine optimization is a growth industry and something of a  
black art). Anyways, there are lots of ways to vary results when  
searching Google. This query, for instance, returns 429 "viewable"  
books/articles:

http://www.google.com/search?q=%22encyclopedia+of+integer+sequences%22&num=100&hl=en&tbs=bks:1,sbd:1&start=0&sa=N

Google is constantly changing their search and ranking algorithms, so  
trying to get predictable results can be difficult to say the least.

I've learned not to trust the number of "results" shown at the top of  
the page. To get beyond the "limit" you reach when doing a search  
(i.e., the total number of pages Google will actually display) you  
have to start using other combinations of words. The best way to  
verify if Google has your site indexed properly is to search for every  
link (hopefully such a list is contained in the sitemap.xml file).  
Thus Google's search is kind of like an NP problem -- it's easy to  
verify if a specific link is in their index, but it may not be  
possible to view all the links they have for a specific site unless  
you know all the link info beforehand...
