Some A-numbers do get recycled, yes - see the file dexhis.txt

The tail of that file reads as follows:

A169764 (njas) renumbered as A169778
A163862 (Orlovsky) rifo A160758
A177517 (Hardin) rifo A177477
A177516 (Hardin) rifo A177479
A160232 (Angstrom) rifo A002487
A021037 (njas) rifo A010674
A177205 (Gerasimov) rifo A000027
A177797 (Gerasimov) rifo A066196
A144565 (Gerasimov) deleted, too artificial
(rifo means "retired in favor of")

> it appears you recycled the number A144565

(but A021037 won't be recycled - I only recycle
numbers > 100000, assuming that earlier numbers
have been in existence long enough that they should
not be changed)
