	The problem is that the definition (Name) of the sequence
appears to contemplate a continued fraction whose terms are simply
consecutive odd numbers.  Have I misread that?

Yes. Perhaps surprisingly, the decimal digits he gives have a vague  
continued-fraction pattern:

{1, 1, 1, 9, 1, 1, 17, 1, 1, 25, 1, 1, 33, 1, 1, 41, 1, 1, 49, 1, 1,  
57, 1, 1, 65, 1, 1, 73,...}
