Note that these sequences satisfy the recurrence

     a(n) = 3*a(n-1) - 2a(n-2) whose characteristic
polynomial is  (x - 1)(x - 2) and solution  A + B*2^n,

      A = 2*a(0) - a(1),  B = a(1) - a(0)    R.
