1°, but then, how did you remember that it was "A010503"? ;p

2°, it was bad luck that the precision was cut before a digit "6",
almost the worst possible case....

3°, you should have done, on that 6 digit calculator or by hand:

707² = 499849; this - 500000 = -151; -that / 14.14 = 10.678

to get 5 more digits : indeed, sqrt(.5) = .707 10678 ...
