They are the same:
Using mathematica...
-> Simplify[TrigExpand[(Cos[x])^2 + (Sin[3 x])^2 - 1/2 == 0]]
Gives: Cos[2 x] + 2 Sin[3 x]^2 == 0
And:
-> Simplify[TrigExpand[Cos[6*x] - (Cos[ 4*x])^2 == 0]]
Gives:
Sin[x] (Cos[2 x] + 2 Sin[3 x]^2) == 0
The other solution x>0 is greater than

Asunto: [seqfan] Two roots of trigonometric polynomials
Is there a way to reduce the trigonometric expressions in
http://oeis.org/A197757
and http://oeis.org/A197488 to demonstrate that the two constants are the
same?
