Hans,
I think you will find the sequence you plan to submit is A114440 (including
1).  I have been working on extending the b-file for this one and arrived
yesterday at the result you described - 440 steps ending with four terms of
1434 digits that stop the sequence.  This of course answers the question in
A114440 about whether the sequence is finite.
