Dear Bob,

I wonder what is a current lower estimate for the maximal
element of tragectory of 49 in the algorithm of A037274?
>From your table it is similar that it is much more than A037274(65).

P.S. In addition to A037274 I submitted a simpler A248705.

Regards,
Vladimir

Dear Seqfans, At the OEIS-50 Fest yesterday, John Conway offered $1000 for the 20th term of A037274 (well, he didn't phrase the question in exactly those words). The answer of course is a(20) = 3318308475676071413

(He meant to say a(67), I believe, but he neglected to check the OEIS before posing the question.)
