Comment there:
  If all pairs of consecutive terms (i,i+1) (such as (0,1), (1,2), (2,3), ...) are erased, the original sequence appears.

Now it seems that the following also holds:
  If the first two instances of each term are removed, the original sequence is recovered.

Is the following true:
  If the first k instances of each term are removed, the original sequence is recovered.
