This defines a partially boring sequence because one of the two
bisections is the all-1 sequence A000012 and the other one indeed A028242:

0,1,1,0,1,2,1,1,1,3,1,2,1,4,1,3,1,5,1,4,1,6,

The ordinary generating function is
-x*(-1-x-x^4+x^2+x^5)/(x^2+1)/(x-1)^2/(1+x)^2 
and the 6-term recurrence is
a(n) = +a(n-2) +a(n-4) -a(n-6).
