Incidentally, when you click on a link on a web page, your browser tells
the destination server what page the link was on, not only the url given
by the link.

This means for example that you could get different access if you click
on a link compared to copying the address from the link and entering
it yourself.  Actually this is a common way that temporary free access
to journal articles is implemented: the server is told to grant access
if you asked for the article using the link on the offer page, otherwise
standard access conditions apply.

And then there are cooky settings...
