I'm reminded of the phrase "picking the low-hanging fruit" in the sense of proving the easy, accessible, theorems before others get to them. But I'm writing this from Pasadena, California, that was a ranchero broken up into orange orchards and peacock farms (for the late 19th century fashionable peacock feathers) and dairies, before the era of Caltech, JPL, and the Rose Parade.
