advantages of gmane over google groups

Something like this, that does not disturb the existing mailing list, 
might
very well be worth doing for its own sake.  Having an archive would,
IMO, be a plus, not a drawback.

I don't think this will do much to solve the problem of excessive 
postings
of limited value, however - it might even make it worse.

but i think there may be an X-noarchive option if this is a problem.
