When I was a manager in Web Services division of Earthlink, I wrote
the (sorry, no electronic copy available) formal specifications for
Logos that our Search Engine partners could have on out main pages (as
subscribed to at the time by over 2 * 10^6 people). They specific
logo in size of enclosing rectangle, max and min number of pixels
horizontally and vertical, nonflashing, number of colors, preferred
fonts, and more. It is important to get this right. Consider with
what care Googol optimizes their logo(s). Intellectual Property
considerations, software considerations, I also researched first the
statistical distribution of Platforms of users (PC, Mac, Other) and
browser version. This is serious, not "bells and whistles." It's an
"inner loop" part of the application, and must be highly optimized.
