A quick (non-rigorous) check finds 660 terms less than 1000, 7894 less than 10000. This suggests that such numbers are the rule, not the exception.

45, 48, 50, 55, 56, 60, 68, 69, 70, 72, 74, 75, 76, 77, 78, 80, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 98, 99, 102, ...

I've got all of the cycles with starting values up to 10000 as numbers becoming themselves.
