I happened to get a nice recycled sequence number: A300012.

It would be good to agree terminology for the terms we have been putting
in parentheses. "Conjectured terms" would be wrong, I think, because the
term is inherently open to revision until it is known that the parenthetic
value is not required to enable a lower value to achieve its earliest
position in the sequence.

"1806,(258),86,43" quoted below is a case in point. 129 does not occur in
the sequence before 128, so 258 turns out to be required as the term
before 129 in order for 129 to appear only 9 positions later than 128. The
position of 43 is not affected, as another option, 602, is still available
to replace 258 between 1806 and 86. So 258 loses its position, and the
sequence runs "1806, 602, 86, 43".

I suggest "optional terms" would be appropriate, but look for guidance
from those with more experience of mathematics terminology.

Best Regards,

Peter
