It seems like a perfectly reasonable sequence to me.  Starting from any
a(1), one could take the sequence a(n) = a(n-1)-choose-2; as it happens, 4
is the first interesting start, since 2 initializes 2,1,0,0,0,... and 3
initializes 3,3,3,... .
